John Lewis - President and Founder

John Lewis is the founder and president of EQUIP (formerly Kingdom Story Ministries). After more than 30 years in ministry, in 2012, John and several key supporters launched Kingdom Story Ministries. The vision was to help Christ followers experience, live, and share God’s Story. This vision was birthed out of the Kingdom Story curriculum, first introduced in 1995. After twelve years, the ministry grew significantly and in 2024 rebranded itself as EQUIP.

The mission grew to inspiring and providing Christian leaders with the training, resources, and support to build discipleship cultures across the world. Today, EQUIP serves churches and ministries across five continents. John’s primary areas of focus are financial development, resource development, and partnership management in the Balkans, Europe, and China.

John grew up in Tacoma, Washington, graduating from Pacific Lutheran University with a BA in business. He has a Master’s degree from Fuller Seminary and a Doctorate of Ministry from Bakke University in Transformational ministry. He has served as adjunct faculty at Bakke as well.

He has served with Young Life at the University of Puget Sound, with University Place Presbyterian Church, with the Northwest Leadership Foundation in Tacoma, and with Leadership Foundations.

John and his wife Carissa live in Fircrest, WA, and have three adult children, Jonathan, Elizabeth, and Rachel, and 2 grandchildren. As a family, they spent two years in Beijing, China, in 2005-2006, working with young adults and churches.  EQUIP continues to serve churches in China.
